Adult Swim Class Descriptions (June 27-August 18)
Classes are designed to be leisurely; not intensive.
Strokes classes may be taken once you are 100% comfortable in water (that is, safe).
Butterfly: 4 class sessions Learning a stroke includes learning its turn.
Backstroke: 3 class sessions
Breaststroke: 5 class sessions
Freestyle: 8 class sessions
Flip turns and Open Turns: 2 class sessions
Treading water: 3 class sessions Learning to tread does not remove fear! Overcome fear first. Then learn to tread.
Overcoming fear: 20 class sessions Includes putting face in, floating, panic prevention, learning to be in control, moving from here to there, maneuvers, going at your own pace. Reaching total freedom in deep water usually takes 12-16 more sessions.
Floating: 3 class sessions Front and back floats
Putting Your Face In/Ears in: 1or 2 class sessions: your choice. Learn slowly.
Swimming Injury Prevention: 1 class session Avoid shoulder, elbow, knee and ear injuries.
Pre-Masters Swimming: 2 class sessions once the strokes are learned Segue from fitness swims to workouts with a team.
Snorkeling Skills in the Pool: 1 class sesssion, $8 gear rental additional
Ocean 101: Introduction to the Ocean, 4 class sessions Learn how to get into the ocean, be comfortable with breakers, float in salt water, jump waves and enjoy it!
Ocean 202: Introduction to Ocean Sports, 4 class sessions RenewOcean 101 confidence. Then take lessons in sea-kayaking, boogie boarding, body-surfing, possibly Stand Up Paddling, and if the visibility is good, snorkeling. Lab fee for gear.
