Swimming Classes for kids

Sarasota, Florida

Every child can be reliable for his or her own safety in deep water.

Kids Summer Swimming Lessons

Let's help every child love the water!add

The very most important things for a child to learn in water are how to get a breath whenever s/he needs one and how to rest in deep water. On the way to learning these vital skills, a student needs to know how how the water supports his body; how the water works; how to keep water out of his nose; and how hard it is to get to the bottom.

To naturally learn to propel oneself and maneuver in water, she must know the water. This comes from play, experimenting, and experience. It's so much fun, all she needs is good guidance and a curriculum designed to meet her where she is. We have it.

At 21st Century Swimming Lessons, which is part of Miracle Swimming Institute, we believe it's imperative for all kids to love the water. If they're taught well, it's natural to love it. They'll be happy to take swimming lessons and it'll be easy to become reliable in deep water. It takes a few weeks (2-4 usually), and it's easy. Safety first, then strokes. Each child goes at his or her own pace.

So much joy comes from being free in water. So many possibilities open up from being able to swim. Safety puts your mind at ease. And what an ideal outlet for family entertainment, especially here in Florida. Talk about budget-friendly fun. We live in a park with free admission!

If something has frightened a child in water and it's not corrected, then swimming lessons, an essential part of every childhood, like learning to read, won't be an activity your child wants to do. Unless s/he has specialized remedial lessons, s/he will likely grow up to be an adult afraid in water—i.e., an adult who cannot swim. We teach these restorative lessons. Everyone can become free in water.s

Having taught adults who are afraid in water for 28 years, we know how to make students feel safe in water and how to teach them to trust themselves in it. We must prevent children from becoming afraid adults. We're training other swim agencies in what we learned in these 28 years. Besides restorative lessons, we teach kids the the information they need to know the first time they take lessons so healing will not be needed.

Kids are ready to learn

At 21st Century Swimming Lessons, your child, age 4-18, will be taught the basics of how the water works: it holds him up!

Comfort has to come first so he can enjoy it. Feeling safe and in control of him/herself is the #1 priority of swimming students, and must be part of the curriculum. We know how to teach these. We brought them to the Aquatics industry. You cannot find them elsewhere.

That's not all that's new at 21st Century Swimming Lessons.
How much can be accomplished in 15-25 minute lessons? Ours are 55 minutes, unheard of in swim schools, Y's and municipalities.

There's more.

What makes them 21st Century Swimming Lessons?

They're lessons that have dropped some of the original 1912 ideas and replaced them with essential revisions we learned from twenty-eight years of teaching people who are terrified in water to be confident and swim. With these revisions, learning to swim is now available to all: **A float need not be horizontal to be a good float **A student must be in control in water to learn to swim **There's a step-by-step process for teaching control **Comfort leads to skills: skills don't lead to comfort **You must know the water before you can feel safe and learn to breathe **Freestyle is swimming but swimming is not freestyle.** These ideas correct misconceptions or fix holes in the original philosophy of teaching swimming in the U.S. We had to find them all to succeed with terrified adults. And if we can teach terrified students, we can teach anyone. Swim schools that do not teach these things succeed with half of its students: those who are not afraid. Those are most of the people who can swim today.

Mad Scientist Experiments and pool parties

Attention span?
How long can your child play? Hours? But how long can he/she listen to an adult telling him what to do? Not very long. At 21st Century Swimming Lessons, we're all about play. This is why our afraid adults love our adult classes so much! Your child is about to participate in Mad Scientist Experiments! Under Water Tea Parties!

Full Class Participation
At 21st Century Swimming Lessons, every child is involved at once. No waiting for 3 other kids to practice while your child hangs onto the wall. The pool is shallow enough for kids to be independent. That means a lot more learning time.

Comfortable Pools
Part of being able to stay in the pool is comfortable temperatures. We won't start lessons until the pool is Florida-summer warm: 85-90 degrees, ambient temperature. Kids could play all day!

Instructors
21st Century Swimming Lessons and Miracle Swimming Institute founder, Melon Dash and Sarasota swimmers comprise the teaching staff for Summer 2011. These are models of oneness with the water, ease, and confidence. Their training is top shelf: our method is second to none. We are certified by the State of Florida and sponsored by the County of Sarasota.

21st Century Swimming Lessons' goal is to enhance the way swimming is taught in Sarasota, Florida, the United States, and the world. We've brought innovations to Aquatics internationally which are leading the way to a new way to teach swimming. Basics first: comfort and being in control. Strokes second. Swim teams third, if it sounds like fun. And why would a kid want to join a swim team? Because she loves swimming so much she wants more. That's how swim teams are built. We have a wonderful swimming community in Sarasota and it's only getting bigger and stronger.

Pool and ocean: our pool is on the beach. Special ocean classes in the Gulf of Mexico after pool classes on planned days (extra cost).
