How to Teach Afraid Students with Virtually 100% Success
There's a method of working with afraid students that's notably more effective than teaching them swimming mechanics. There's a body of information for students to learn which is essential for all swimmers, children and adults, afraid and not afraid, in order for them to be as safe as possible in water. These two items—the method and the information — are MSI's contributions to Swimming. They have stopped every instructor in our trainings in their tracks and given them powerful new capabilities. No skeptic goes home unchanged.

Our new trainings benefit the International Swimming Hall of Fame in a new partnership between ISHOF and MSI. The Hall of Fame's goal is that everyone learn to swim. It chose MSI to fulfill the part that's our area of expertise: afraid students who haven't learned in traditional lessons: 64% of American adults, and unknown numbers of children.
Then, on to the rest of the world.
Become a Conquer Fear Instructor (CFI).
You will see the full system in action in the online training and throughout your hands-on training. You'll learn every angle of it that can fit into 6 days (dinner plus the 6 days of training). You'll learn the rest in the field and during six monthly one-hour teleconferences that support your in-the-field teaching for the first half-year. When you finish the Full Training, you'll be able to teach our introductory half-day "mini-class" (an opportunity for prospective students to learn about the system and to have significant breakthroughs), Beginning class and our Next Step class. The combination of the latter two classes takes a student to freedom in deep water and readiness to learn strokes from you, regardless of where they began. They cannot find this level or rate of progress anywhere else, so 3500 adults internationally have told us since 1983.
"I'm 150% sold on this method. My apologies to the thousands who have been taught with conventional methods."—John Thorburn, Dallas Aquatic Masters
"It's been a fabulous experience.... The MSI Training helped me to look at our whole program for kids and alter it to include what I learned from MSI. I've enjoyed teaching again in a way I haven't in a long time. The Training fulfilled my expectations that it would be a new approach, an innovative way to teach, especially in an area that seemed to be a dead end: adult lessons."
— Cori Myka, Orca Swim School, Seattle, WA
"I appreciate your intuitive and psychic approach and your grounded way of relaying it so that it doesn't sound "woo-woo." I believe you are using a (r)evolutionary approach to teaching and to helping people overcome their fear.
—Nancy Ward, Total Immersion
"Unreal. Why didn't anyone ever think of this before? With this information, I'm unstoppable."
— Ben Komer, Leahi Swim School
"Today I gave a lesson to a swimmer with skills who's afraid. We did 2 hours of no technique, just being. At one point he said he felt sad. When I asked why, he said he was sad because it took 42 years to finally be in the water without goggles and just be."
— John Quintana, Virtual Swim
The full training program is approximately 80 hours: online, classroom and warm pool. The book at the left is required reading before completion of the online training. At the hands-on training, there are morning and afternoon sessions each day. You will receive a ~200-page training manual including our 60-page handbook for students. The training class size is limited. You should plan 1-2 days of down time after completing the training in order to reorient yourself.
The goal is to embody the MSI system so that you can be as effective as MSI is. Further training takes place with discussion of your class feedback forms once you open your own Miracle Swimming classes.
Licensees agree to teach the full Miracle Swimming course 3 times per year in order to keep the material fresh and to continue to learn it.

Licensing
The Licensing Agreement will be sent to you before your training. Please read it over and bring any questions with you to the training.
Licensing Agreement
The licensing agreement says, in summary:
- You as an instructor will take the online course plus the 6-day hands-on training, plus 6 monthly one-hour teleconferences.
- You teach 3 Beginning classes, minimum, in the first year, to practice what you learned: a lot is learned by teaching.
- Once you've taken the training and taught 3 Miracle Swimming Beginning classes in 12 months, you become a licensed instructor. Until then, you're a trained instructor. You need to keep teaching it to keep learning the material and stay fresh.
- The licensing fee is $100/year for an instructor. It's included in the training fee for the first year. We recommend that each instructor pay his/her own licensing fee.
- 10% of gross revenues of Miracle Swimming classes goes back to MSI/ISHOF. This percentage decreases as revenues rise.
- The course material is proprietary: you may not license someone else to teach it but you may inform your staff of the principles so they may use them.
- Books and DVDs and Student Handbooks are purchased from MSI/ISHOF (the source) at wholesale prices
- In locations where there is currently a swim school that exclusively teaches Miracle Swimming, there will be a 15 mile buffer around that school as a protected MSI-territory. Currently these locations are: Brandon, FL, Berkeley, CA, and Sarasota, FL.
- In locations where there's an MSI-licensed instructor, there will be a 15 mile buffer around that school as a protected MSI-method territory unless those instructors okay the training of additional instructors in their territory. Currently these locations are: Dallas, TX, West Sacramento, CA, Seattle, WA, Bowie, MD, London, England, Redondo Beach, CA, Mill Valley, CA
- As of September 1, 2008, there will be no new territories since YMCAs and municipalities will need multiple MSI trained instructors. Territories will no longer be needed since virtually all adults taking swimming lessons at all swim schools and agencies need this course: the market is vast.
You may train also to teach our freestyle, snorkeling and scuba classes.
