Introduction to being in the ocean. How to get in, navigate breakers, float in salt water and waves, locomote from here to there, be at ease. Learn about critters, undertows, currents, play, and safety.
Pacific Masters Swimming membership ($40 for the rest of the year) extra if you're not a current member.
Four 3-hour classes; land and ocean at each class. Transportation to classes included.
Approximate schedule: Arrive Thursday Friday, 9-12 and 3-6 Saturday, 9-12, and optional afternoon Sail on Sarasota Bay, 4:30-6:30, $70 Sunday, 8-11 a.m. Depart Sunday (fly after 3:00 p.m.)
Learn to apply the 5 Circles at the beach and strengthen your practice of staying in your body on purpose. Be in control at the beach.
The Gulf of Mexico is 86-87 degrees in September. Goggles and cap welcome. Rash guard recommended (a sun blocking shirt). We recommend clear goggles so you can see well in the water (dark goggles are too dark).
Limit: 8 students. Prerequisite: MSI Beginning class and for non-graduate family members/friends, the ability to put face in water comfortably, float and unfloat on front and back, and roll over. No exceptions.
Transportation package from Tampa International Airport: $100 round trip per person including tip if you arrive by 3:30 p.m. Thursday, September 24 and share the limo with classmates. Depart hotel for airport at 12:15 Sunday, September 27. Fly after 3:00 p.m.
Stay at the Helmsley Sandcastle Hotel, on Lido Beach: one of our two beaches for class. Make your own reservations, 941-388-2181, (rooms have been held at a special rate: mention "Miracle Swimming's Ocean class"). $99 with tax, standard room; $125 with tax, gulf-front room. Restaurant on premises.
The Sandcastle is within walking distance of South Lido Beach Park. 1 mile to St. Armand's Circle, lively area of restaurants and shops. Free Shuttle from hotel to St. Armands, or take a cab. Two pools at hotel.
